I grew up in the age of the Bungee Cord – my father being a devoted enthusiast. But today I can report the Bungee Cord has been supplanted in the biking world by the Rubber Strap, borrowed from skiing.
I’m not even trying, yet I already have three types of these straps. Some folks refer to all of these as Voile Straps, but Voile is in fact a brand name from a specific Utah company. I have a set each from RockGeist that came with my panniers, Wolf Tooth, with the Morse Cage, and then four that I bought from Genuine Guide Gear (G3).
Their design is great – it’s no wonder these have become a standard. You just stretch them tight and flip the end of the strap over an angled prong on the buckle and they hold fast, with the force from the strap itself making them hold tight. Good stuff. Sorry bungees.
