GearAdvent Day 19: Tool Transport

My choice of tool bag for 2024 might be controversial: After exhaustive research, and reading many reviews, I settled on the Ziploc 120 Snack.

I shopped for tools and tool kits, believe me. There’s all manner of cool, light, bikepacking tool setups out there from OneUp, Bontrager, Crank Bros, Park Tool, Mineral Designs (RIP). It’s a natural place for inventive gadgets.

But when it came to this item on my checklist, ultimately this became a place to help stay within my budget. A small plastic bag with just the basic tools needed to do the sort of quick fixes I can manage on the road, plus a pump and a generic multi-tool, should satisfy if/until I really try to get out in the wilderness. It’s probably lighter, ironically, than all the tools on a cycling multitool that are shapes or sizes that I don’t need. Plus a real wrench gives you more leverage just by virtue of its shape.

I will not be rebuilding my bottom bracket, or realistically even fixing a spoke, out in the desert. Not yet, anyway!

  1. I am enjoying these posts a lot. Using a Ziploc for a tool bag speaks to me.
