One of the things I think it makes sense to buy first, even if you aren’t doing multi-day trips, is a phone mount. Phones work quite well for a bunch of tasks including discovering routes and trails, navigation, and obviously finding services and communicating with other folks while riding. These days they can even substitute for a bike computer for all but the hardest-core rider.
I love this PeakDesign combination phone case and mount. I have a lot of miles on this, currently with a Pixel 8 in their custom case. The square recess in the case locks very solidly with a mechanical “snap” onto the bike, guided by a magnet that helps quickly position it.
“Pragmatic” does not mean always skimping or always buying the cheapest solution. I gravitate towards items I will enjoy for a long time, even if they are expensive. This is definitely in that category – spendy, but well designed, a joy to use, and not at all bad to look at.

For I time I also ran this with their “generic” adhesive-backed mount, which I stuck on a smooth surfaced Spigen case to hold my old Pixel 5a. That arrangement might seem a little sketchy, being glued on, but I will say it was absolutely rock solid, and I never feared the phone would let go.

Both solutions highly recommended; 11 stars.
