One of the most studied topics, somehow, in the backpacking and bikepacking internet is how to make a good cup of coffee, so here I just have to pile on. But I haven’t seen anyone mention this miracle, Copper Cow Coffee’s Latte Creamers. I am a dedicated cream-and-sugar guy, and for me it has to be real cream and real sugar. Carrying cream on the bike poses a problem both in terms of spillage and lack of refrigeration. While I was shopping for those small restaurant ultra-pasteurized half and half cups, I stumbled on these two-serving individual packets of sweetened condensed milk, inspired by Vietnamese coffee. Perfect for the road and trail.

My kit includes a collapsible silicone pour-over, which is small and light, but wasn’t expensive like many of the chic ultralight devices. It uses standard Melita #2 filters. For carrying anything ground or powdered I like these compact Rubbermaid containers from a lunch kit.
And I love this mug, the GSI Outdoors Infinity Backpacker Mug. It’s pretty indestructible, and features a fabric handle that collapses so it’ll fit neatly inside my cooking pot and a removeable neoprene insulating jacket. Inside there are volume measurements for cooking. Clever.
